Station 166
Wash Woods or Deal’s Island (1878 – 1882)
Established 1878 with new station built in 1933.
Early station was once used as a dance hall.
1933 station now a private residence.

Station 167
Penneys Hill or Old Currituck Inlet (1878 – 1882) or Currituck Inlet (1883 – 1902)
Now 5.5 miles North of the Currituck Beach Light in Seagull N.C. as a private residence.

Station 168
Currituck Beach (1874 & 1904) or Jones Hill(1878 – 1877) or Jones’s
Hill (1878 – 1880) or Whale’s Head (1884 – 1891)
or Whales Head (1891 – 1902)
Moved to Penneys Hill for use as a private residence.

Station 169
Poyners Hill (1878, 1904 – 1908)
Original station now in Corolla as a private residence.
Second station burned in 1970s.

Station 170
Caffee’s Inlet (1874 – 1899)
Now the Boathouse Restaurant at Sanderling Inn Resort, Duck, NC.

Station 171
Paul Gamiels Hill (1878 – 1890)
Was in Seacrest Village. Abandoned in 1949.
Used as private residence until burned in 1969.

Station 172
Kitty Hawk or Kitty Hawk Beach (1878 – 1890)
1874 station now the Black Pelican Restaurant near mile post 4 ½.
1915 station is a private residence in Kitty Hawk.

Station 173
Kill Devil Hills (1878 – 1930s). New station in 1933.
1878 station now in Corolla as a business.
The 1933 Station, near the 8 ½ mile post on the Hwy. 12 on the original
1878 site, was torn down by new owners in 2004.

Station 174
Nags Head (1874 – 1890). New station in 1912
Destroyed in Ash Wednesday storm of 1962.

Station 175
Bodie Island, or Tommy’s Hummock (1878 – 1923)
New station built in 1923.
Both stations belong to National Park Service.

Station 176
Oregon Inlet (1874 – 1897). New station (1897 – 1993)
1874 station washed away in a storm. Newer station stands abandoned.
Plans to restore it are pending.

Station 177
Pea Island (1878 – 1880). New station (1911 – 1949)
1878 station burned in 1880. 1911 station is now a business/residence at
Hatteras Water Sports in Salvo, N.C.

Station 178
New Inlet (1882)
Destroyed by fire.

Station 179
Chicamacomico (1874 – 1911). Newer station (1911 – 1954)
All buildings are being restored by the Chicamacomico Historical
Association, owners of the complex. The 1911 station is restored and
open to the public. The 1874 station is being restored, and is open.
Restoration to other out-buildings will follow.
Most complete Life Saving Service site in North Carolina, possibly in
the United States.

Station 180
Cedar Hummock (1878 – 1882) Gull Shoal (1882 – 1944)
Station was destroyed in Hurricane of 1944.

Station 181
Little Kinnakeet (1874 – 1904). New station (1904 – 1954)
Station complex is held by the National Park Service.
All homes in area were destroyed in 1944 hurricane.

Station 182
Big Kinnakeet (1887 – 1929). New station (1929 – 1944)
Damaged in 1944 hurricane and never repaired or replaced.

Station 183
Cape Hatteras (1882 – 1930)
The buildings were demolished in the 1930s to build the Coast Guard
group station in 1935. Became a Navy base in WWII and is now a Coast
Guard base for housing.

Station 184
Creeds Hill (1879 – 1890)
Now used for National Park Service housing.
It can be seen on NC Hwy. 12 in Frisco, NC.

Station 185
Durant’s (1883 – 1890)
Was used as the base for General Billy Mitchell’s bombing experiments.
Was a private residence until it was destroyed by Hurricane Isabel,
September 18, 2003. Owner hopes to rebuild.

Station 186
Hatteras Inlet (1883 – 1903). New station on Ocracoke Island.
Destroyed in storm of 1955.

Station 187
Ocracoke (1905 - 1940s). New station at Silver Lake.
New station now owned by North Carolina
Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT).
